SPRING 2021 Recreation Soccer

Open Registration begins January 1, contact Registrar with any questions:

SOCS provides competitive soccer for kids in pre-school through high school. For 2020/21, children must have been born by 12/31/2017 in order to be eligible to play in our youngest age group. If your child was born in 2017, SOCS offers a Mini-Kicker program for these kids (please click here for details). Kids need cleats, shin guards, gym shorts and a soccer ball. Game jerseys are provided by SOCS. Our registration fee is a very affordable $95 for the 2020/21 soccer seasons.

Soccer Seasons: The spring season will run from April until early June, the fall from September to early November, depending on game scheduling. As we draw closer to each season, we will be able to provide more specific start and finish dates. Each recreation team plays eight (8) games over the season, and typically has one practice a week, the date and time of which are determined by the coach.

Age Groups and Play Levels: As mandated by MSYSA, players are assigned to age groups based on calendar year of birth. For example, this year's U5 players will all have been born in 2016, U6 players in 2015, etc. SOCS has also adopted the Small Sided Rules also mandated by state and national level soccer organizations. Our U5's play 3v3, U6 play 4v4, U7-U8 play 5v5, U9-U10 play 7v7, U11-U12 play 9v9, and U13 and up play 11v11.

Our youngest age groups, the U5 and U6 players, receive additional coaching from our professional soccer trainers on game days. These trainers provide fun drills and exercises for the kids to help improve their soccer skills for about half of the game time, then assist the volunteer coaches with game management for the actual game.

Clinics are offered for older recreational soccer players several times during the season on Friday nights to help with their skill development. SOCS also provides goal keeper training in both the fall and spring seasons for our rec players.

Fields: The teams play at various fields along the Woodward Avenue corridor. The youngest age groups, U5 and U6 play all of their games at the Men's Club Field in Huntington Woods. Older aged kids will play at fields in Berkley, Oak Park, Southfield (Catalpa Oaks Park), Royal Oak, Beverly Hills, Madison Heights and Ferndale. For just about every age group, the games are within a 10-15 minute drive from your home.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the Recreation Registrar.
